Mater Dei, meaning, mother of God, is a private, non profit, faith based hospital, founded in 1950s by the catholic Franciscan nuns. It has had it's ups and downs over the years but my dad had a prostate op Early 2018, where the doctor explained everything, after a long wait to get to see him, and results were excellent. Post operative staff were clean, kind and mostly extremely caring. It was delightful climbing the stairs every day in the hospital where my two young adults were born all those years ago. The beautiful sunsets and heavy rains creeping into the entrance made everything so much more nostalgic. As far as I remember the nuns used to stay in the building at the side of the hospital now converted into offices.

My partners daughter was butchered by surgery here. They said it was appendicitis, no real evidence of that. Two terrible operations, other medics consider probably unnecessary. Maybe they claiming it on international insurance. Very poor post op care, with nurses not administering pain relief on time. . Nurses not paid as seen in local news reports. One local patient thought the surgeon was good as she had had 30 operations there ! Eventually she got insurance involved that eventually medevac'd her out of Zimbabwe. The Drs in Sandton J'burg were shocked by the operations and scars left. So are we. Someone needs to check the records and standards.
