Red café is a pleasant surprise in Bulawayo. Friendly service, good food, resonable price. We enjoyed our lunch a lot!!

Could have been better if it weren't for the unfriendly waitress. This place just barely manages the fourth star. Had a late lunch there as my companion was hungry. Not sure why it's called a "Cafe" as the atmosphere is more "bar" like but that's how most establishments role these days. True to it's name, it's very red on the inside, with slightly odd mixtures of modern furnishings and decor and farm/ranch style elements. Offering a cosy atmosphere during the summer with lovely warm colours all over the place. Met at the door by the owner who gave us a lovely warm welcome then ushered to a table by the said waitress. Time to order Food - no menu! What??? So she explains that they are still new and had just opened up the restaurant side of things (initially concentrating on the bar) so were still working on a menu for the restaurant. As mentioned before, this place has more of a bar atmosphere. I didn't ask, but it was clear food wasn't their main agenda. She did give us the few options they had off her head. We opted for the so called "braai pack". Unappealing name for a restaurant so we weren't expecting too much fanfare on the plate. But there was. To our delight, the presentation was good, seemingly prepared by an actual chef whom I spoke to afterwards. This chef told me he had worked at establishments like The Nesbit Castle and it showed. Bare in mind this was a "braai pack" so I wasn't expecting too much. The beef strips were tasty and succulent, soft and juicy, merinated in a slightly sweet sauce. Delicious. With fries, chopped wors and a salad. The kind of stuff you'd expect from a Steakhouse. My companion cleared her plate of very tasty grub in double quick time. I'd have loved to see chicken on the plate too but they say they are implementing a menu soon. Large menu of liquors, beers, wines and spirits. We had sodas instead. Didn't get to use the bathroom so can't comment on that one. Overall, lovely experience, lovely atmosphere, great staff, our waitressess just needed to smile a bit more like everyone else there.
